PROGNOSIS data confirm German quality-of-life questionnaire for bronchiectasis

15. January 2022

For the analysis, baseline data from 904 participants in the German bronchiectasis registry PROGNOSIS were evaluated. The results demonstrate good to excellent internal consistency and high test-retest reliability of the questionnaire. In addition, the QOL-B was able to reflect differences in disease burden, including exacerbations, hospitalizations, breathlessness, lung function, sputum volume and the detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

This provides, for the first time, a validated German-language instrument that can reliably assess disease-specific quality of life in bronchiectasis. This is important for both clinical studies and routine care, as patient-reported outcomes are playing an increasingly important role in the evaluation of therapies and disease progression.

The study highlights the value of the PROGNOSIS registry as an important data source for bronchiectasis research in Germany and contributes to more patient-centered care.
